Nov 07, 2021 I am trying to remove a layer of Alclad Aluminum II lacquer from a model. I have had some luck with denatured alcohol, but it is not my favorite thing to use because of its considerable side effects. Oct 19, 2009 Alclads high-shine finishes are the ones that require gloss black underneath. So Chrome, Polished Aluminum, Airframe Aluminum, Stainless Steel, Gold and Brass. The regular finishes (Aluminum, Duraluminum, Steel, etc) just need grey primer to protect the plastic, and its recommended to polish them smooth with 1000+ grit sandpaper.

Dec 26, 2015 I have tried 3 aluminum paint types to date - Testors Metalizers, SnJ Spray Metal (which is not made anymore), and now Alclad II. Both the Testors and the SNJ were buffing style metallics, and both yielded extremely nice finishes whether left matte or polished.
