Jul 26, 2012 We have been having problems with corrosion and pitting of 7075 aluminum parts machined on our CNCs. There are black and white spots with corrosion immediately following machining which leads me to beleive it is a coolant issue? We have also experienced this with parts washed right after machining. Has anyone else run into this? Thanks, Ed
May 27, 2005 20 May 05 16:09. We have found some surface pitting on a CNC turned aluminum part (7075-T6) due to the machining process. It was previously run on a high speed Hurco machine (without the problem) but recently changed to a older and slower CNC. Anyone experienced this before and have an idea or two to where to begin?

Aluminum 7075 is can be formed in the annealed condition. and can be forged in the temperature range of 700 Degrees to 900 Degrees F. It should be solution heat treated following forging. Aluminum 7075 is a very poor choice for welding. ... 7075-T6 Aluminum Tube Per WW-T-700/7. 1-1/4 OD x 0.065 x 12 FT. 1-1/8 OD X 0.156 x 12 FT .
7075 Aluminum and Properties, Strength and Uses. 7075 Aluminum introduction. 7075 ALUMINUM refers to a commonly used 7-series aluminum alloys. Among the more common aluminum alloys, the best strength is 7075 alloy, which is commonly used in CNC cutting parts. It is suitable for flying machine frames and high-strength accessories.
Aluminium Alloy 7075 offers the highest strength of the common screw machine alloys. The superior stress corrosion resistance of the T173 and T7351 tempers makes alloy 7075 a logical replacement for 2024, 2014 and 2017 in many of the most critical applications. The T6
Feb 19, 2013 What size aluminum block of 7075 T6 would I need? Youll need to measure an AR lower for HxWxL and add 1/8 to each of those sizes. 1/8 of an inch is a country mile in Machinist terms, I get pissed when material comes in over that because its just more chips I have to make squaring the block up for real machining.
NM Engineering did not skimp here as these links are precision CNC machined from 7075-T6 aluminum here in California. Because this is a high-stress part, 7075 was chosen because it has the same tensile strength as steel, yet is much lighter. Just to compare, 7075-T6 has almost twice the tensile strength compared to 6061-T6.

7075 aluminum is a cold-wrought alloy and the strongest of the aluminum alloys, or as strong as some lower-grade steel products, but it is lighter in weight. The principal alloying ingredients of 7075 aluminum are zinc and copper. Its other metallic elements include magnesium, iron, silicon, manganese, chromium and titanium, in descending order ...
Dec 18, 2020 Bright anodizing of 7075 (7xxx) aluminum 2007. Q. A supplier is claiming he cannot bright anodize 7075-T6 due to its copper content. He says putting it in a caustic etch will make it black in colour. Being relatively new to anodization I dont have all the facts but shouldnt a brightening dip be acid based, sulphuric or other.
Anyone working with aircraft or aircraft parts is likely quite familiar with aluminum. For the most part, all aircraft are composed of significant quantities of aluminum parts. While composite materials are becoming more and more common, aluminum is still the mainstay of aircraft material.
Jan 05, 2018 The Evolinks performance comes from all the things explained before but the 7005 T6 aluminum that we use on the Evolink is not even nearly as strong as the 7075 T6. The advantage of the 7075 T6 to a 6061 T6 is that we can actually make a lightweight frame without the spaghetti effect that the ber light 6061 T6 has.
Because anodized aluminum is slick and non-porous, it just doesnt hold paint very well. However, if you need to paint over anodized aluminum, there are a couple of preparation techniques you can employ that will allow you to achieve an attractive, long-lasting finish.
Powder coating is the process of spraying electrostatically charged paint (in powder form) onto your extrusions. Unlike liquid paint, powder coating doesnt require a solvent. So its VERY important that the surface of every extrusion is properly pre-treated. 1) Pre-treat the Aluminum Surface
Jul 02, 2021 Chime right in! (no registration reqd) -----Black spots problem in anodized aluminum Current question and answers: July 2, 2021. Q. When I anodize 5052 aluminium, I always find black line or black dots on customer part which I could not see before anodizing. And this problem appears only on 5052 material but not all 5052 aluminium parts.
Feb 17, 2006 7075-T6 machines very nicely for me, rather nicer than 6061-T6. It doesnt sound like your applications are engineered around 2024, in which case 7075 should substitute OK. 7075-T6 is typically a tad stronger, a tad less ductile, has worse high-temperature creep

The main and outer body sections of the Jeep JK aluminum bumper (MFES-JK) are constructed from 3/16 6061-T6, marine-grade aluminum to provide optimal strength and impact resistance. Recovery gear and mounting points are CNC machined from 6061-T6
Nov 15, 2016 So - Pimped cant tell the difference between aluminum and steel. Look at his original post, something like cracks go all the way through the steel. Anyway, if someone tried to sell me that shape in aluminum I would say no, it doesnt look anywhere near strong enough for 180 hp. 60 maybe, so it would be good on Ducs and Gixxers. Eagle eye, z00!
Mar 21, 2018 This was primarily due to the receivers being made of the lower quality 6061 T6 aluminum forgings. Eugene Stoner himself had pled with Ordnance Corps to use 7075 T6 aluminum and was shot down until 1968 when production changed to the desirable 7075 T6 aluminum, which is used to this very day.

Apr 09, 2014 Apr 10, 2014 Reasonable Expectation- Black Anodizing 7075. I have a few intricate shoe box sized prismatic parts that have pockets on all six sides. The material is 7075 and bead blasted before black anodizing. I am getting back parts with air pockets in them (light bubble looking features) and a lot of dark gray looking splotches and light spots on surfaces.
Sep 15, 2021 Sep 15, 2021 Ive just finished the manufacturing of some aluminum (7075-T6) pieces that needed to receive the Alodine 1200 but it is not fixing on the pieces. Is there anything that can avoid the Alodine to fix the aluminum (or this kind of). Ive already worked with 7075 previously and it has worked, but not this time. Pedro Almeida

May 03, 2010 May 14, 2021 Hope someone could help me on this. My customer is requesting for a part to be manufactured by using material that complies to ASTM B221, 7075-T6. When i refer to ASTM B221, the standard does not specify anything on requirement of hardness. However, my material supplier keep asking about the hardness required.
Jan 16, 2015 Jan 17, 2015 Such as Harma**. That is because the 7075-T6 excellent performance. Our wheel spacer also made from 7075-T6 aluminum alloy. So Forged material possesses a better performance; especially the forged aluminum alloy material 7075-T6 can meet the demand in different kinds of the extreme environments (rally, cross-country, etc.). Its the best choice.
Jun 04, 2012 Jun 04, 2012 Only thing I can add is to use 5000 series filler on the 7005. The big difference between 6061 and 7005 is that 7000 series alum takes a very long time to go into solution (anneal) unlike 6061 which goes into solution almost immediately. So 6061 you can use 4043 if you want to chemfilm, or 5356, 5183 if you want to annodize.
To note: 7075 T6 is the aluminum used in some less expensive forged receivers. They seem to be trying to suggest that just because its CNCd from a billet that its somehow better than CNCd from a forging, but Id argue that thats just not true.

A billet 80% lower receiver is formed from a solid block of 7075 T6 aircraft-grade aluminum called ar stock. One benefit of the billet 80 lower is that there is a built-in trigger guard. Steve, Ive anodized 7075 T6 forged aluminum parts with this method. If you do a lye bath/soak you can get a decent flat finish. I did a couple of pieces that the owners glass bead blasted with good results (got the texture right). Be sure you clean the items before you start the process though.

Sep 26, 2017 On face value, you might say that 7075 is better because it appears stronger. Take tensile strength; 6061 is 45,000 psi (pounds per square inch) and 7075 is 83,000 psi. You might equate the higher number as being better, but there is more to the story that numbers. As with anything, you have to determine the best use.

Clint starts of with aircraft grade aluminum 7075-T6, which is more durable than 6061. I went over this in the Mega Arms receiver review if you want to know more about the difference of the two alloys. Using 7075-T6 allows for better heat dissipation than softer alloys while retaining strength, and has higher corrosion resistance properties.
