Dec 28, 2020 6061 is an alloy that consists of aluminum, magnesium and silicone and is considered to be superior to 7005, made of aluminum and zinc, although the latter appears to be more resistant. 7005 aluminum has a resistance to failure of 51,000 psi, compared to the 45,000 psi recorded for 6061 aluminum while also being more resistant to squeeze.
Sep 28, 2010 For 7005 the major alloying element is Zinc. The mechanical properties of the two materials arent that different. 7005 has a little better mechanical properties. 6061 yield 255MPa. 7005 yield 290MPa. The modulus of elasticity is nearly identical and therefore bikes made out of 6061 or 7005 with the same tube dimensions will have the same ride ...
Ride. Due to its inherent hardness, 7005 aluminum bikes feel rougher when you ride them. You might not realize it, but bike frames bend when you ride the bike. They absorb bumps and road vibration. The 6061 alloy is softer, making the bikes ride more comfortable. The

often considered, that the aluminum alloy 6061 more suitable for bicycle frames, than an alloy 7005, although the alloy 7005 and somewhat more durable. The tensile strength of the alloy is 7005-T6 350 MP, and alloy 6061 310 MPa, yield stress 290 and 275 MPa, respectively. When it comes to the strength of the frame as a whole, the large ...
May 22, 2006 6061 (aluminum/magnesium/silicon alloy) is generally considered superior to 7005 (aluminum/zinc alloy), though in some respects 7005 can be stronger. The tensile strength of 7005-T6 is 51,000 psi vs 45,000 psi for 6061-T6. Yield strengths are 42,000 psi vs 40,000 psi, respectively.

Apr 11, 2007 The 7005 alloy is also moderately harder than the 6061 alloy. So 7005 finds more uses in things like chain rings (ehere hardness counts). As above frames hardly matter. I watch for a frame that is powder coated because the powder coating process also heat treats the aluminium after welding to improve the strength of the weld in the heat ...

Met 6061 kun je dus makkelijker ingewikkelde krommingen maken dan met 7005, maar 7005 is sterker dan 6061 zodat je dunnere buizen kunt gebruiken voor een lichter frame. Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm.
Ultimately it may be tricky to differentiate between the two as frame design and the other components may influence the ride quality to a greater extent. All things being equal though i.e. identical tube/frame sizes, then the 7005 frame will be marginally stiffer but a whole lot stronger. Hope this helps.

Nov 01, 2017 I was just wondering if anyone knew what the difference, durability, strength, between 6061 T6 and 7005 aluminum frames. I have both kinds, a Diamondback and Supercross, and by looking and weight cant tell any difference. 1980s BMX GUY GETTING INTO THE NEW BIKES!!! Offline #2 2006-12-19 4:18am. djm Intermediate
Feb 02, 2008 The first is, they all make good frames as long as the manufacturer is doing their part in the design department. And the second being, my butt cant tell the difference between a well exicuted 6061, 7005, or 7075 frame. How long a frame made of any of the above will last is a toss up. All aluminium frames will break eventually.

Because the 6061 alloy is easier to handle, reducing frames production costs. Basically, 6061 aluminum allows manufacturers to obtain lighter frames which are also better designed. 6061 is clearly better because of one article i found on the internet. 7005 is clearly shit because of my wal-mart bike uses 7005 aluminum.

Jun 12, 2011 The 6061 was a slightly weaker bond and that might be an issue in cyclocross. The 6061 is easier to cut and machine so it may be preferred to lower costs. The 7005 is more difficult to work with, but stronger, maybe more expensive for the components. It may also affect ride and feel.

Jun 04, 2012 The big difference between 6061 and 7005 is that 7000 series alum takes a very long time to go into solution (anneal) unlike 6061 which goes into solution almost immediately. So 6061 you can use 4043 if you want to chemfilm, or 5356, 5183 if you want to annodize. Otherwise they weld identically.
